Following the operation inception of Karun 4 Hydroelectric Power Plant’s first unit, with a capacity of 250 MW, on Saturday, December 11, 2010, the second unit of the plant was launched successfully.
According to a report released by IWPCO’s PR, announcing the news, Eng. Hossein Ranjbaran, the Executive Director of Karun 4 Dam and Power Plant, said: “The 250 MW unit joined the country’s national network of electricity after carrying out all the tests, while merely less than 10 months is passed since Karun 4 Dam’s impounding operation.”
“So far, over 1.6 billion cubic meters of water (more than 90 percent of the Dam’s useful height) is stored in the dam’s reservoir and will make the launching operation of the two other major units possible as of March 22, 2011,” He asserted.
Signaling that Karun 4 Hydroelectric Power Plant, with four units of 250 MW, enjoys the annual electricity production capacity of 2107 GWH, he noted: “The planning is conducted in a way that all units of the plant will join the country's electricity networks in the aforementioned time.”
Eng. Ranjbaran mentioned that the first unit of Karun 4 Hydroelectric Power Plant, with a capacity of 250 MW, was launched in December 11, 2010 and generated 54 thousand and 834 MWH of electricity in the first month of its activity.
Karun 4 is constructed in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari Province, within 180 kilometers of Shahr-e- Kord Southwest.
