Iran registers first CDM H.P.P project with United Nations

Text

Piran hydro power project is registered as Iran's first CDM project with United Nations, according to a report released by PR office of IWPCO.
Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has been proposed in the light of Kyoto Protocol and commitment of the countries to reduce emission of greenhouse gases and global warming.
A. Nikpour, the manager of IWPCO's CDM projects, commented on the procedure of conducting CDM studies and said that after the last step of submitting Piran CDM validation and registration request to UNFCCC, the assessment of documents completed on January 17 th, 2013 without a further need for review.
He also added that CDM studies of Piran began in January 2011 by the joint venture of Iranian consulting companies of Tar-va-Tosse Rahborde Energy and Sazeh Pardazi and their French counterpart Ecosur. When relevant data including general, technical and financial facts collected and necessary modifications were made to financial report, the design documents were provided. The validation process of the project initiated in June, 2011 by an Italian company under the name of RINA. RINA assessed and reviewed the documents and exchanged ideas and views with Iranians during technical meetings. After the submission of required documents and receiving approval from the executive board, the registration process began within UNFCCC.
He also said that in September 2012, CDM studies of Piran with the aim of reducing emission of greenhouse gases were approved by National Board of CDM and Iran's department of environment as the only designated national authority (DNA). Nikpour also said that CDM studies are carried out in light of Kyoto Protocol and commitment of countries to reduce greenhouse gases and global warming. Among the CDM projects, hydro projects are considered as the most exciting and environmentally friendliest ones. Besides reduction of greenhouse gases and yielding revenues, they bring about environmental advantages from national and international points of view. The registration of Piran with UNFCCC as the first CDM project is of considerable importance to Iran , especially Power and Energy Ministry. As of the registration date of project, CDM is applicable to hydro-power earnings of power plant.
