News: Third Unit of Gotvand connected to Iran's Power Grid

Third Unit of Gotvand connected to Iran's Power Grid

Following the attachment of the first two units of Upper-Gotvand power plant, the third unit was successfully connected to Iran's national power Grid. According to IWPCO's PR announcing the news, G. Samandegani, head of electrical and mechanical equipment department of Upper-Gotvand said: After the launch of two first units on May,25th  and June,7th ,2012, the third unit connected to the network on  September, 18th.
He also pointed to the great impacts of units and improvement of power generation capacity in the Grid and added: the first two units have so far provided 450 GWHr to the Grid. Hydro generation of this power plant is of high importance to the Grid since it helps the grid at peak hours. Gotvand plant with the capacity of 2000 mw ( 8* 250 mw units) can generate 4550 GWHr in a year. 4 units of Gotvand are installed in the first phase and 4 others in second phase.
Announcing that all 4 units are soon connected to the grid, Samandegani added: Gotvand power plant, when completed, will produce the highest amount of energy among other hydro plants. This guarantees the stability of network and helps frequency regulation within the grid.
The report also states the water storage volume and length of the reservoir in Gotvand to be 2000 mcm and 70 kms, respectively. The big reservoir of Gotvand is considered an important resource in Khuzestan Province and can permanently rectify limitations of water supply to fertile lands of Khuzestan.
The exclusive role of Gotvand is better understood by its capability to resolve the limitations of upstream power plants and meeting water demands in downstream.
Upper-gotvand dam with an embankment of about 32 million cubic meters and height of 182 meters from foundation is considered Iran's tallest earthfill dam. It is located 5 km away from Gotvand City in Khuzestan Province. The dam was impounded on Thursday July 30th, 2011 in the presence of President Ahmadinejad.
