IRAN'S FIRST PUMP- STORAGE PROJECT PROGRESS BEYOND 93%

Text

The construction progress of Siahbisheh, Iran's first pump storage project, goes beyond 93 %.
According to a report released by Iwpco's PR, announcing the news  F. Akhavan Saleth , the executive officer of project said: "Considering different tasks and fields of work within project , it is anticipated that some power units be launched by the end of Iranian year ( March 2013).
"Siahbisheh project includes two upper and lower CFRD type dams. When power generation in national grid exceeds power demand, power is consumed to pump water stored in the reservoir (6.9 million cubic meters) of lower dam (102 m high) to upper reservoir.  On the other hand when power demand is greater than power generation, Siahbisheh plant generates power using water stored in reservoir (4.3 million cubic meters) of upper dam (82 m high).
Siahbisheh has 4 units each producing 260 mw of energy. Some of the objectives which this project has been seeking for were improvement of power grid stability and creation of balance between high peak and low peak hours. Consumption and production of 960 and 1040 mw of energy besides reduction of operation costs of thermal and gas power plants have been of other minor objectives.
Reminding that water would flow over the spillway within couple of days in upper dam and within twenty days in lower dam F. Akhavan Saleth emphasized that the equipment installed in Siahbisheh are included among highly complex engineering and technical devices and main parts such as draft tube, spiral case, stay ring, turbine accessories as well as heavy metal parts such as stator, rotor, generator brackets, lifting devices, cranes( save gearboxes), concrete embedded parts at different levels, cooling system, fire alarm and protection system, ventilation system and other peripheral parts were all made in Iran.
Siahbisheh pump-storage project is currently under construction. It is being built on Chaloos River and is located 125 km north of Tehran.
